Cultural Interest
The surrounding area of Umbria and Tuscany is rich in history, and in
both artistic and architectural treasures from the middle ages and the
renaissance.
Religious and cultural festivities abound in the hundreds of fortified
rural villages, which regardless of their relative anonymity have much
to offer in terms of local cuisine. Burger King, however, can only be
reached after a two-hour long drive!
Furthermore, nearly 20% of the world's artistic heritage is within a
range of about 100 km from the house. The greater part of Italian Renaissance
art, besides a considerable portion of ancient and medieval art, can be
seen in Florence, Perugia, Siena, Arezzo, Assisi, Chiusi, Cortona, Gubbio,
Orvieto, Spoleto, and Tarquinia - not to mention many of smaller local
towns and villages.
Moreover, a couple of hours drive takes you right into the centre of
Rome, and the roads are good and often panoramic.
